How do I apply Crystal Blue Colorant?

Simply pour Crystal Blue colorant into your pond from the shoreline.

Will pond dyes/colorants hurt my fish?

All of Sanco's pond dyes/colorants are safe and will not cause any harm to fish.

Crystal Blue and Ocean Blue are food grade dye/colorants and are 100% safe for fish, animals, recreation, irrigation and potable water.

Black Out is safe for fish, animals, recreation, irrigation, but is not safe for potable water.

What time of the year is the best time to apply pond dye?

Crystal Blue, Ocean Blue, and Black Out colorants can be used in your pond during any season. Just pour the product into the pond water from the shoreline. We even recommend pouring the product over the ice as it melts.

How often should I apply colorant to my pond?

Most pond dyes will last in your pond approximately 30 days. You may have to add more pond dye before 30 days if you have execissive rainfall, run-off, a heavy out flow, or evaporation. If your colorant is fading you will visually be able to tell and should add more dye to the water.

How much colorant should I use in my pond?

Crystal Blue, Ocean Blue, and Black Out's application rates are based on 1 surface acre with an average water depth of 4-6 feet deep. One gallon of any of the listed colorants will treat about 1 acre 4-6 feet deep. For our water soluble pond dye bags you would use one box for 1 acre 4-6 feet deep.

Pond dye is largely based on personal preference. If you want your pond a little darker add more colorant.

How do I measure the size of my pond?

Measuring your pond is the first step to treating your pond safely and properly. You can measure your pond based on the average shape of the body of water. Use these formulas to calculate the size of your pond.

How do I clean up a pond colorant spill?

Do not add water to the spill, you will just spread the dye!

If you have a liquid pond dye spill, soak up as much of the product with an oil absorbent. Place the soiled absorbent in a trash bag to prevent colorant bleeding on anything else.

Use a 50/50 bleach and water mixture to clean up the rest.

To clean off of hands use bleach water, but be sure to keep out of eyes.

How do I apply Crystal Plex pond algaecide?

The best way to apply liquid copper sulfate is to do a broadcast spray. Spray the algae mats with Crystal Plex in sections. You will only treat 1/3 to 1/2 of your pond at a time to prevent oxygen depletion. See labeled instructions for application amounts and check our tips for how to measure your pond size. The algae will brown up within 48 hours. Copper Sulfate is toxic to Koi, goldfish and trout.

Will Crystal Plex hurt fish or animals?

Crystal Plex liquid copper sulfate and Copper Sulfate granular is safe for livestock, recreation, potable water and not harmful to most fish when used according to label directions. Oxygen depletion is the common cause for a fish kill. There are a few exceptions, Copper sulfate is not meant for small deco ponds and is toxic to Koi, Golfish and Trout.

When do I use Crystal Plex?

Crystal Plex Algae killer, should be applied when you first notice an algae bloom. Typically algae will turn water green, have a slimy film, or thick "horse hair" like mats on the pond. Spot treat with Crystal Plex, liquid copper sulfate as needed waiting 5 to 7 days between treatments. Water temperature must be 50 degrees or above in order to work effectively.

How often do I need to use Crystal Plex?

Crystal Plex, liquid copper sulfate algae killer should be used when algae is present. Wait a week between applications and only treat a 1/2 or 1/3 of the pond at a time to recover oxygen levels.

How much Crystal Plex should I use?

Properly measure your pond to find the square acreage and average depth. One gallon of Crystal Plex, liquid copper sulfate solution will treat a surface acre 1 to 2 feet deep. Example: 1/2 acre pond 4 feet average depth, mix 1 gallon with 8 to 10 gallons of water. (Water is to help spread the product, not to dilute.) See labeled instructions for all application rates.

What is the difference between Crystal Blue and other brands of pond colorant?

Crystal Blue pond colorant is made with a proprietary formula that gives your lake or pond a deep royal blue color. Other brands of dye combine shades of blue and yellow, which gives the water a green, algae-like tint. Crystal Blue's royal blue tint gives the water a more natural and longer lasting appearance.

Can I over treat my pond with Crystal Blue colorant?

You can over tint your pond, but Crystal Blue pond colorant is a food grade dye and non-toxic to fish and animal life. If you put more then the recommended dose in your pond, the color will be a darker color, but dissipate over time.

** Please note, the gallon size is meant for larger ponds a 10th of an acre or higher. Colorant is available for small, backyard decorative ponds in smaller units and shows dosage by gallons.

To apply: simply pour the correct amount of Natural Pond Cleaner into your pond from the shoreline in several different locations around the pond. The Natural Pond Cleaner will disperse itself throughout the water. If you have a high concentration of muck in one area, pour directly in problem area.

How do I apply Tsunami DQ, aquatic herbicide?

Spray application is most effective and recommended when treating weeds in your pond or lake with Tsuanmi DQ. Please note, this is a non-selective herbicide and can burn or kill plants it comes into contact with. See labeled instructions for amount of diquat needed. Application rates will vary based on overall size and depth of the pond in addition to identifying what type of weed you are treating. It is necessary to wear protective clothing and eye wear when applying and avoid coming into contact with mist.

When do I use Tsunami DQ?

Tsunami DQ, diquat should be applied when you first notice weed growth. It is important to properly identify the weed to make sure you are using the most effective product. Do not treat if your water temperatures are below 50 degrees as you do not want to waste the herbicide.

How much Tsunami DQ should I use?

The usage of Tsunami DQ depends on the type of weed and size of the of the pond or turf area being treated. One can use as little as 1 quart or as much as 4 quarts per quarter acre. Mix 3 - 4 ounces of Tsunami for every gallon of water. See labeled instructions for application rates.

Does Tsunami DQ have any restrictions or warnings?

Tsunami DQ has restrictions on consumption and irrigation after application. Please refer to chart on labeled instructions for appropriate time frame (anywhere from 1 to 5 days.) Read the complete label directions before handling Tsunami DQ. Keep livestock and all animals away from treated forage near ponds, lake, fields and crops for a 24 hour period. It is recommended to wear protective clothing and eye wear, chemical-resistant gloves and footwear with socks.

How do I apply Rust Kutter?

The surface that Rust Kutter is being applied to needs to be free from oils, grease, dirt and dust. Remove any loose paint or rust with a wire brush or sandpaper. Wipe off any loose residue. Do not grind surface to bare metal. Rust must be present for Rust Kutter to work. Shake Rust Kutter bottle thoroughly and apply with the spray quart container or for the gallon apply with a brush or roller. Immediately after application thoroughly wash brush or roller with warm, soapy water. Allow to dry 24 to 48 hours or until "tacky" feeling is gone.

How does Rust Kutter work?

Rust Kutter uses a balanced formula that causes rust to chemically change to a phosphate, turning the metal black or chalky white depending on conditions. A coat of paint then uniformly attaches itself so to the metal that moisture and oxygen cannot attack the surface, which results in a much longer lasting finish.

How do I neutralize Rust Kutter?

Rust Kutter does not need to be neutralized on the metal surface. Once Rust Kutter dries, it becomes inert and will not react to temperature or other chemicals.

How much Rust Kutter should I use?

Rust Kutter spreads easily and covers a larger area than paint because it is as thin as water. One 32 ounce container covers approximately 150 square feet and one gallon covers approximately 600 square feet.

How long does Rust Kutter take to dry?

Allow Rust Kutter to dry 24 to 48 hours. Certain conditions can cause Rust Kutter to dry slower. If the area is tacky to the touch, wait another 24 to 48 hours to make sure it cures thoroughly.

What is the difference between all the different types of bacteria?

All of Sanco's bacteria is formulated to break down organic material, muck or sludge. Our liquid pond bacteria is simply a maintenance dose. The pond bacteria spikes are the most concentrated. The spike design is also beneficial because the weight and shape of the spike will insert itself deep into the muck. The spikes are recommended for recreational areas that have become unusable due to muck build up.

How much Catt Plex should I use?

Mix 2 - 3 ounces of Catt Plex per gallon of water to make 1 1/2% solution. Treats an area of approximately 500 square feet. It is recommended to add an aquatic grade surfactant, such as Plex Mate, which helps enhance the herbicide and absorb into the plant or weed.

How is Catt Plex different then other glyphosate based herbicides such as Roundup?

Catt Plex is an approved aquatic herbicide not containing any surfactants. Many other herbicides contain surfactants that are toxic to wildlife. Fish and invertebrates are especially sensitive when exposed. A specifically formulated aquatic surfactant, such as Plex mate, is highly recommended to aid in the absorption of the chemical into the plant.

What do I do if the fountain quits working?

If your fountain quits working there are a few quick and easy options one may want to check. First, check the circuit breaker and the GFI to make sure they did not get flipped. Either one may need to be reset. Another possibility is there is a short in the system. Disconnect power and check cord for damage. You may need to replace the cord. If the problem isn't resolved please call Sanco Industries for additional trouble-shooting.

What if my fountain has low to no spray?

If the fountain has low to no spray, there may be a blocked screen or nozzle. Disconnect power, thoroughly clean the screen and nozzle. Also check to see if the o-ring is missing or damaged, and correctly seated in the groove. Make sure the nozzle is installed properly and in the right direction. The nozzle is marked "this side up." Finally, check to see if the water level is at least 5 feet deep. If not, move to a deeper section of the pond. Restart unit. If these solutions do not help, please contact Sanco Industries.

What if I need additional trouble-shooting for my fountain?

If you need additional trouble-shooting, please call our office at Sanco Industries. It may be necessary to send the fountain in for testing or repair. If so, obtain a return authorization number (RA#) from Sanco Industries. Without this number testing or repair can not be processed.

Where can I find the model and serial number on my fountain pump?

The model and serial number are located on the model/date code label found on the body of the pump.

How do I install the pond aerator?

Placing an aerator into your pond can be accomplished in a few easy steps. First, carefully remove the aerator from the packaging and uncoil the aerator hose. Next, fill diffuser and weight with gravel or sand. Place pump securely on the shoreline. Sink the diffuser in or near the deepest part of the water. the airline is weighted, so this will drop to the bottom. Plug in the aerator and everything should be up and running.

How often do I need to clean the aerators filter?

The aeration filter should be cleaned periodically every 3 to 4 months.

How do I clean the aerator's filter?

To clean the aerator filter, remove the cover screw securing the semi-cover to the pump housing and remove the filter pad. Gently dust the filter pad then hand-wash in mild, soapy water and let dry. Replace the filter pad and filter cover. Secure with the cover screw.

Should I protect and cover the aerator pump?

To lengthen the lifespan of the pump, it is recommended to shelter the aerator pump from the elements. This can be done by covering the unit with a fake boulder (which can usually be found at a local home improvement center) or any other type of housing that has proper ventilation.

How do I replace the aerators diaphragm?

Make sure the aerator is unplugged. Remove the screws or bolts on the four corners of the pump case and remove the top cover. Remove plastic diaphragm covers. Unscrew nut on both sides of the diaphragm. Replace new diaphragms on both sides. Re-install diaphragm covers on both sides. Replace top cover back on pump case and fasten screws or bolts.

How do I order replacement diaphragms for an aerator?

If you purchased an aerator through Sanco Industries, please contact our office to order a replacement diaphragm kit. The kit will include everything you need to successfully replace the diaphragms.

What do I do if the aerator stops working?

First unplug the aerator and check diffuser(s) to make sure they are not clogged. If diffuser(s) are not clogged, next check electric outlet to make sure it is getting power. If the outlet is in working condition, then you will want to check the condition of the diaphragm. See "How to replace diaphragm." If you find that the diaphragms are damaged or torn you will want to replace it. Please contact Sanco Industries with additional troubleshooting issues.

Will Crystal Plex still work if it freezes?

Yes, but the product may not be as effective. When using frozen Crystal Plex be sure to shake well before diluting and spraying algae for control. I recommend using warm/hot water to dilute the frozen Crystal Plex before spraying.

How long is beneficial pond bacteria good for?

Sanco has several different forms of bacteria, liquid and dry.

Our liquid Natural Pond Cleaner can last for more than 5 years if kept in a stable temperature unopened. Once opened you should use Natural Pond Cleaner within 2 years. Once opened and stored you may loose some spores over time.

Sanco's dry packs and spikes can last at full strength up to 3-4 years. Spores may fade over time, but some germination could be expected indefinitely.

Is Sanco's Stock Plex safe for sheep?

In short, yes it is safe. The recommended dosage for Stock Plex in a stock tank is .4 ppm. Sheep diets require 5 ppm of copper. What sheep owners need to consider is the total amount of copper your sheep are consuming. Many feeds contain copper so while our product isn't enough to harm the sheep when combined with other products used by sheep you could go over the recommended dosage of copper to keep your sheep safe.

How does foliar feeding work?

Roots take up the bulk of the nutrients, but small amounts of nutrients enter through the leaves and stems. The efficiency of uptake through the leaf is high compared to the root, but the quantity taken in is small in comparison to the root.

How do I know if I'm allowed to treat my pond water with Crystal Blue products?

If there are regulatory restrictions for products they will be listed on each product page. However, some local governments and agencies apply stricter regulations than their state. To be certain you are legally allowed to treat with certain products it is best to contact a local governmental agency like the DNR.
