Treating Cattails: Catt Plex and Plex Mate

26 Aug 2012

Sanco’s Catt Plex and Plex Mate are an excellent product combination to effectively control and kill emerged pond weeds like cattails.  These shoreline pond weeds have a tubular root system that is below the surface of the water, which makes them almost impossible to manually remove.  Catt Plex is a glyphosate based product and should be used with our surfactant, Plex Mate.

When used at the proper mixture rate and applied appropriately, Catt Plex and Plex Mate will effectively control approximately 60% of the total growth treated on the first application.  Catt Plex should be mixed at the rate of 3 ounces to every gallon of water and 1tsp of Plex Mate to every gallon of water. This mixture should be sprayed on actively growing plants.  The leaves and stalks of the plants should be generously coated.

  • Here are some tips to get the most out of your cattail application:
  • Spray plants when they are actively growing (summer or fall)
  • Generously coat the plant and stalk with Catt Plex/Plex Mate solution
  • Make sure you have approximately 24 hours with no rainfall after application
  • Allow 10 to 14 days for results
