Do you dread the warm up of spring because you can’t keep control of your pond?  All ponds are going to have growth in the form of weeds and algae, however, it is important that you manage the growth. Preventative pond maintenance products are a vital role in preventing weeds and algae from taking over.

The first step in your pond maintenance program is to make sure you have pond dye in the pond as soon as the ice melts.  As soon as you notice the colorant fading you should introduce a bit more to maintain the color all year long.  Sanco has 3 different pond dye’s to choose from: Crystal Blue, Ocean Blue, and Black Out.

Preventative pond maintenance should also include the use of beneficial pond bacteria.  Beneficial pond bacteria, like Sanco’s Natural Pond Cleaner, is an effective way to minimize the food source for the algae and weeds.  The bacteria in Natural Pond Cleaner feed off of the organic material on the bottom of your pond floor.

Preventative pond maintenance is all about creating an environment that inhibits weeds and algae from growing.  These tips won’t stop weeds and algae but it will definitely help slow them down so that the growth is easier to manage.
