Pond Problem

08 Dec 2010
By applying Crystal Blue pond products you can avoid or solve many of your common pond problems.
If your pond problem is excessive algae in your pond, it may mean:
  • This pond problem is caused by too many nutrients in the pond.   Use Crystal Plex Algae Control to kill the algae and maintain the water quality.  Crystal Plex is safe for fish, livestock, and water fowl when applied per label directions.  Some exceptions may apply.  Always read directions thoroughly. After all the algae is killed, follow up by using Crystal Blue and Natural Pond Cleaner all year round.  Natural Pond Cleaner will help clear out dead material and prevent the common pond problem of excessive nutrients. Natural Pond Cleaner also helps to restore healthy bacteria in the pond to reduce the amount of micro nutrients.

If your pond problem is cloudy and brown water, it may mean:

  • This pond problem can be caused by a large amount of dead material in the water column, ie. fish debris, muck and sludge.  Using a combination of both Crystal Blue and Natural Pond Cleaner will help to restore your pond and make it clean, clear and Crystal Blue.  The colorant will not only add a beautiful color to the pond, but it will also help settle out floating material.

If your pond problem is fish swimming towards the surface or they are dying, it means:

  • Your pond problem is lack of  oxygen in your pond. You need to get more oxygen into the pond.  The best way to do this is by installing a Crystal Blue Aerator.  Aeration is key for any pond environment, particularly smaller ponds with lots of fish.  Fish food and fish waste can lead to increased nitrogen levels, but this is significantly reduced where aeration is provided and dissolved oxygen is introduced to help decay the waste.
  • This pond problem can also be because of fish over population.  There should be 1 to 2 inches of fish length per square foot of pond.  See our article on correctly stocking your fish pond.
