Pond Maintenance

04 Jul 2016

Pond Maintenance will look different for every pond owner.  One consistent part of pond maintenance is that it is continual.  Maintenance, by definition, is the process of continued action.  Many variables like age of the pond, surroundings, size, depth, and the personal preference of the owner will determine what degree of maintenance your pond will take.

For a natural bottom ponds, pond owners should expect to treat their pond no less than every 30 days.  At Sanco we feel a healthy pond is clean but not sterile.  Adding products like pond dye and pond bacteria should be done every 30 days or when the color begins to fade.  These products are easy to apply.  Simply pour the recommended dose into the pond.

To maintain pond growth, you will need to keep a watchful eye on the pond.  As you notice growth you will want to use the appropriate product to control pond weeds or algae.  Spray areas that are used recreationally for swimming and fishing more heavily to keep the area cleaned up.  Allow other areas of the pond a little more flexibility to have growth. Ponds that are older, contain more built up organic material on the pond floor, have fertilizer runoff or have been neglected will need to be treated more frequently than newer ponds.  During summer months’ pond owners may need to treat every 2 weeks to keep growth under control.  Sanco has three different products that will help your pond maintenance endeavors.

Crystal Plex for pond algae problems

Tsunami DQ for submerged pond weeds

Catt Plex for weeds above the surface of the pond
