Eurasian Water Milfoil Treatment

19 Jun 2016

Eurasian watermilfoil is and extremely invasive nonnative aquatic plant.  This pond weed spreads easily by means of boat and waterfowl.  This plant thrives in nutrient rich bodies of water with little to no native plant life.  The dense underwater growth can wreak havoc on recreational activities like boating, fishing, and swimming.

Treatment of Eurasion watermilfoil can be tricky.  Manual removal of the weed will only result in temporary relief and often leads to thicker growth.  Cutting this particular pond weed will only cause the plant to fragment and creates thousands of new colonies.  Using a combination of Crystal Plex (liquid copper) and Tsunami DQ (diquat) has effectively controlled the growth.  With repeated applications the growth will gradually shrink the area of infestation.  To treat a 1 acre body of water with Eurasion watermilfoil mix 1 gallon of Crystal Plex with 1 gallon of Tsunami DQ with a couple gallons of water.  Spray the mixture in areas with growth.  Depending on the severity of the growth and water hardness repeated applications may be necessary.  Always read individual product labels for restrictions.

As always we recommend pairing any treatment of pond weeds with the use of pond dye and pond bacteria to enhance your efforts.  For more information on Eurasian watermilfoil contact Sanco.
