Boost Beneficial Pond Bacteria

17 Apr 2012

Managing your pond can be difficult without a clear plan. Controlling aggressive pond algae and other invasive pond plants starts with introducing beneficial bacteria in your pond. Beneficial bacteria in a pond combat both pond problems, and can lead to a healthier pond.

Algae and other pond plants thrive on the abundance of nutrients present in your pond. Nitrogen and phosphorous are prime ingredients for rampant pond weed and algae growth. Beneficial bacteria simply compete for those nutrients, and do so more efficiency than algae and the others. Temperature is a factor that can limit beneficial bacteria’s effectiveness, so warmer temperatures are recommended.
