Treating Cattails

Do you have cattails ruining the aesthetic value of your pond/lake?  Do you ever wonder if there’s anything that you can treat with to magically get rid of these pesky plants once and for all? 

Well, Sanco Industries has just the product for you.  This cure all for your emerged weeds has a base of glyphosate, and is called: Catt Plex.  Glyphosate is a systematic herbicide, meaning it travels throughout the plant killing both the roots and vegetative foliage.  Along with this potent herbicide, it also recommended that you use a surfactant, like Plex Mate, to guarantee the greatest possible amount of Catt Plex is being absorbed into the waxy coating of this plant.  For the most effective and efficient treatment of cattails, you should follow a few handy guidelines we have found useful after testing these products on several different aquatic environments in our area.  First of all, it is highly recommended that, if at all possible, you apply glyphosate and Plex Mate thoroughly just after the seed head has formed on the plant.  If you apply it during this time, the energy reserves of the plant are at their lowest in the roots and this is where all of the food reserves are being stored; so, if you apply during this specific time, you will in effect kill the whole plant at one time and you also destroy any reserve that the weed had stored for winter.  Another tip for treatment is to make sure and apply the Catt Plex and surfactant on a warm, sunny day when you’re unlikely to have rainfall.
