Treat Pond Algae Before Water Temps Drop

22 Oct 2013

Just like swimming in your pond is seasonal, so is treating pond algae. It is important to treat pond algae during months when the water temperature is above 40°F. This guideline in regards to treatment is important.  If the pond is treated when temperatures dip below 40°F, the algae won’t absorb the chemical. For products like Crystal Plex to work properly, it is advised to treat ponds during the warmer months of the year. Crystal Plex’s copper sulfate solution is extremely effective in controlling algae when temperatures are warm because that’s when the algae most readily absorb the solution. This absorption is so effective that it is wise to only treat a partial part of the pond at a time because of excessive decaying of algae. When pond temperatures dip below 40°F, stop treating algae. On the other hand when pond temperatures rise, stop the spread of algae with Crystal Plex.
