Summer Algae Treatments

26 Aug 2013

Tis the season for warm water, fun at the lake, and pesky algal blooms. The inevitable increasing temperatures during summer months cause algal blooms to be plentiful and get in the way of enjoying the lake. Luckily, there is a way to enjoy your lake without the intrusion of algae. To control your pond algae and keep your pond balanced one of the best chemicals to use is copper sulfate. Sanco offers copper sulfate in both liquid and granule form. The granule form is most effective for algal mats, while the liquid form is best for less dense forms of algae. The liquid form, which is called Crystal Plex, is less concentrated, yet it stays in the water for a longer period of time.  It is important to note that chara and planktonic algae are not affected by copper sulfate, but that copper sulfate is extremely effective on the common filamentous algae. In fact, Crystal Plex is so effective on filamentous algae that it is advised to only treat part of your affected area at a time.

Take back your lake front and your summer fun by ridding pond algae with granule copper sulfate and Crystal Plex.  Contact Sanco for more information on pond and lake water management.
