Solving Pond Problems

28 Aug 2011

Pond problems take many forms and can swamp a pond owner, if unprepared. Thankfully, we are here to get you organized and ready to tackle your small lake or pond problems with confidence.

Marginal Weeds
Aquatic plants like cattails can be a touch of beauty to your pond’s waterline, but too many are a nuisance. Before breaking out the aquatic herbicide, take a walk around your pond. Shallow areas created by a gradual slope are a prime cause to excessive marginal weed growth. Create a steeper slope, and slightly deepen the drop off to discourage weed growth.

Muddy Water
Two sources can be the problems and determining which one is the cause is easy. Take a sample of your pond water and allow it to settle for 24 to 48 hours. If the particles in the water are still suspended then apply a flocculent.  Clear water with the particles settled on the bottom of your sample indicates your pond can be aided by adding a pond dye to it.
