Prevent fish kill by installing pond aeration systems to ensure your pond water has a high enough oxygen content to support the life of your fish. Oxygen levels can be affected by several different variables like water temperature, treatment of aquatic plant life, and surface movement.
Warmer water holds less oxygen so when the mid summer temperatures increase the oxygen in your water will decrease. Installing an aeration system will compensate for this inevitable loss of oxygen.
Treating aquatic plant life can also affect the oxygen levels in your pond. It is important to keep your weeds and algae under control by treating a portion of the pond at a time. When you treat pond weeds and algae with herbicides and algaecides the decaying material will deplete the water of oxygen.
If you have a pond that is surrounded by trees or has very little surface movement there will be no additional oxygen being introduced into the water column and it is very important to aerate these types of ponds.
