Preventative Pond Maintenance

While driving down the road the other day I spotted a sign that said: “Failing To Plan Is Planning To Fail” and thought this was a perfect representation of preventative pond maintenance.  Too often, people that own ponds will sit on their heels and then wonder why their ponds look terrible in the summer.

Having a pond maintenance plan is the key to a beautiful pond.  While your pond may look fine in the spring there are things brewing below the surface that will become very apparent as the form of growth in the summer.

It is important to use preventative pond maintenance products like pond dye and beneficial pond bacteria.  The use of these products will help prevent weeds and algae from taking over your pond.  Once growth starts it is very important to identify your growth and get the correct products to help manage it.  You will either need an algaecide for pond algae or a herbicide for pond weeds.

Having a plan for your pond maintenance will ensure that you will succeed in have a clean and clear pond this season.
