Preventative Pond Maintenance

The majority of states allow pond owners to treat their ponds at their own discretion.  However, some states regulate the sale of certain pond maintenance products that control growth.  Ponds are living breathing ecosystems that will eventually grow algae and weeds if not maintained.

For those pond owners that live in states that restrict the use of algaecides and herbicides it is important to have a preventative pond maintenance plan.  Preventative pond maintenance products that we recommend are pond dye, beneficial pond bacteria, and aerators.  By using these pond products you may be able to keep the growth under control.  None of these products will kill weeds or algae once they start growing, but preventative products can stunt their growth. 

Here is a list of states that have restrictions for certain products like Sanco’s Crystal Plex algaecide and Tsunami DQ and Catt Plex herbicides.

• Crystal Plex Algaecide is restricted in the following states: CT, NJ, and NY 
• Tsunami DQ Herbicide is restricted in the following states: AR, CT, MI, NH, NJ, and NY
• Catt Plex Herbicide is restricted in the following states: CT, NJ, and NY
