Pond's Aren't Swimming Pools

24 Jun 2013

While some pond owners aspire to rid their ponds of all weed growth, it is important to note that some pond growth is a necessary part of a healthy balanced pond. Ponds aren’t meant to be swimming pools; they must have some natural growth. While some pond growth is necessary, an excessive amount of growth is not. So when weeds grow out of control, there are steps that can be taken to control pond growth and keep your pond maintained. Sanco provides various products for different kinds of weed growth. Products that will control algae are Copper Sulfate and Crystal Plex. For emerged and surface weeds like duckweed, use Tsunami DQ. On the other hand, for strictly emerged pond weeds like cattails, use Catt Plex.  Both of these products are effective herbicides that will control pond weeds, but for successful pond maintenance it is important to identify weeds before you treat as this will save you time and money. Along with herbicides and algaecides there are also other products like pond colorants that will help settle out solids and pond aerators that will help circulate water and oxygen, thus aiding in weed decomposition. All of these products will help maintain your pond and limit pond growth, but remember that some growth is necessary for a healthy pond.

Contact Sanco Industries for more information on how to maintain your pond.
