Pond Weed Identification

One of the most important things to do when you realize that you have a pond weed problem is to identify the weed before you treat your pond. Correctly identifying the pond weed will save you a lot of time and money. A common misconception is that herbicides will kill any weed, but in fact some pond weeds require specially formulated products.

Catt Plex is a glyphosate based herbicide that eliminates shore and emerged pond weeds to the root. Catt Plex kills cattails, water lilies, and other shore and emerged aquatic weeds to the root. Catt Plex also works with turf by eliminating unwanted grasses and broadleaf weeds.

To eliminate algae including filamentous, chara, and planktonic variations use Crystal Plex. Crystal Plex’s  liquid copper sulfate solution is designed to kill and control algae and some aquatic plants including Hydrilla.

A great non-selective herbicide is Tsunami DQ, which eliminates submerged and floating pond weeds like duckweed, water hyacinth, pondweed, slender leaf pond weed, coontail and other aquatic weeds.
