Pond Weed Control Methods

07 Mar 2012

The fine line between aquatic plant and aquatic weed is sometimes hard to discern. Most plants can be tolerated in small amounts when they don’t interfere with your pond’s intended use. The best approach is a pond weed control prevention management. Pond weed control is easier to manage when dealing with smaller populations of plants.

One measure to take is limiting the amount of shallow areas when your pond is full. Areas where your pond is less than 2 to 3 feet deep can give rooted plants a chance to become established. Preventing noxious plant growth can be as easy as deepening these shallow areas.

Chemical treatment is also possible. Sanco Industries’ pond weed control for submerged and floating pond weeds is Tsunami DQ. This diquat dibromide herbicide when combined with our surfactant controls weeds like coontail and duckweed. One tip is to not administer Tsunami DQ to muddy water or stir up the water as it’s applied. Diquat readily bonds with clay particles reducing its effectiveness.
