Pond Problems to Look For

No pond owner is going to have a problem-free pond. Pond problems can creep up and surprise you if you’re not careful. Here are two common pond problems.

Aquatic Weeds

Pond plants provide protection of the shoreline from wave erosion, and refuge for small fish. When their growth becomes excessive, it’s time to investigate why. Oxygen Depletion

For fish stock ponds, this is a major concern. Be on the lookout for the following signs:

·         Large fish are dying before smaller fish

·         Fish gulping at the water’s surface

Most low oxygen kills are sudden, but if you see the signs outlined above than aeration is required. One way to circulate water is the installation of an aerator. This is especially important with ponds which have a history of fish kills.
