Pond Maintenance Advice from Our Service Team

17 Jun 2012

Sanco Industries’ service team treats many ponds in northeast Indiana.  The biggest complaint from our treatment representatives is that many of the ponds they are treating have a significant amount of grass clippings cast into them.

Over time grass clippings collect on the pond floor and will eventually become rich organic muck.  This rich organic muck makes treating ponds even more difficult.  Pond weeds and algae thrive in ponds with muck, which increases the need for herbicide and algaecide treatments.

An important part of pond maintenance is minimizing the amount of material you are putting in your pond to keep the amount of muck and sludge at a minimum.  Our service team always advises pond owners to mow clippings away from the pond.

Regular use of beneficial pond bacteria like Sanco’s Natural Pond Cleaner will also help keep excessive muck at bay.
