Pond Fountain Pump Removal

24 Nov 2013

As winter approaches certain pond maintenance must take place, jobs such as applying a final dose of water dye, or using one of Sanco Industries great algae killers before the water freezes.  These are things that will ensure that when the water starts to thaw in the spring, the pond is already a leg up on being primed to be enjoyed for the warmer weather.  One other job that may get overlooked is making sure to remove pond fountains before the water freezes.

The main reason to remove pond fountains during the winter is for maintenance.  The fountain has been running all summer and into the fall and needs to be checked out to make sure everything is working the way it is supposed to be.  Like anything else the fountain needs to be cleaned and repaired if anything is wrong.  Spending that much time in the water will also lead to debris and other growths coming off of the fountain, taking the time to remove the fountain and inspect it will allow pond owners to clean those things off of the fountain.  One other reason to remove fountains during cold weather is that the ice can sometimes damage the fountain as the water contracts and expands.  It makes no sense to have the fountain outside in the elements if the fountain is not in use, the fountain will last longer if put in a safe place during the winter season.
