Pond Algae Control

One of the most frequent complaints new pond owners have is algae. Pond algae can be particularly bad in newer ponds because they are often imbalanced and take time to reach equilibrium. Excessive algae can reduce the Oxygen levels of your pond which results in the death of fish.

Fortunately, Sanco offers products that will kill pond algae without the wait.  Copper Sulfate, in granule form, controls most species of algae that include filamentous or string algae. It is important to note that if you have a particularly dense film of algae it is wise to treat only the most affected areas first instead of treating the entire pond. Treating the entire pond at once will kill the algae, but it will also keep oxygen levels low because the decaying algae will also prevent the circulation of oxygen. If used properly, Copper Sulfate is very effective at killing pond algae and keeping your pond balanced.

Another product that will keep your pond algae free is Crystal Plex. Crystal Plex is a liquid Copper Sulfate solution that kills algae and other aquatic plants. It is safe for humans, livestock, pets, birds, swimming, and irrigation. Take note that it is not for use in Koi or Trout ponds, but that it is safe and effective in other areas.
