Sanco Industries has been manufacturing products to kill pond algae since 1991. While we are in the business of controlling growth we also recognize that there is beneficial growth. Chara is one of the few varieties of pond algae that can be beneficial to your pond.
Chara is a pond algae that is often mis-identified as a weed because of the way it grows and it’s structure. This pond algae appears to be rooted and has a stem with off shooting growth. The texture is crunchy and the plant has a musky odor giving it the nick name Skunkweed. | ![]() |
Chara is considered a filter algae. Ponds with Chara have extremely clear water. Now…that doesn’t mean you let you pond fill in with Chara. There is a happy medium to having this growth in your pond. If not managed, Chara pond algae will take over your pond. To keep the pond algae under control we recommend spraying Crystal Plex in the areas that you use recreationally like beach and dock areas.
Dosing:
2 gallons of Crystal Plex per acre with an average depth of 4 feet.
Application:
Because you are only going to treat ½ of your pond you will only use ½ the dose listed above. Mix 1 gallon of Crystal Plex with 2-3 gallons of water and spray the ½ of your pond. That contains your beach or dock area.
