Liquid Copper Products can be More Effective

14 Oct 2012

Chara is a type of algae that grows in fresh bodies of water, such as ponds.  Chara tends to grow more ferociously in limestone areas throughout the northern temperate zone.  Chara is a submerged algae and attaches to the muddy bottom of ponds and is not something that any pond owner wants to have growing in his or her pond.  However, chara is a filter algae and can keep pond water very clear.  Therefore, Sanco recommends treating only a portion of your chara.  Sanco industries offers a couple different ways of dealing with algae, but one is much more successful at controlling chara than the other.

Copper products have been used for a very long time when treating algae growths such as Chara.  As was said above there are two kinds of copper applications that can be used, copper sulfate granules and chelated copper liquid.  The granules are effective for treating algae mats.  Unfortunately this kind of application is not effective with its use on chara.  To treat the pesky algae growth chara, pond owners can turn to chelated copper liquid, the other copper treatment for algae offered by Sanco.  Liquid copper is easy to use and is longer lasting then the copper granules.  Crystal Plex, one product offered by Sanco, can last up to 30 days and basically waits for the algae growth to begin and then destroys it before it is a problem.  If chara is a problem in any owner’s pond, then liquid copper is hands down the best option to get rid of this problem.
