Knowing Your Pond Size

Treating your pond can be a full time job and even overwhelming at times. In order to decrease the stress that comes along with having a pond, it is important to really get to know it inside and out.  Knowing how large or small, how deep or wide is the first important step to treating and maintaining care of your pond.  Knowing as much information about your pond will help you understand how much product you need to use while treating for any problem that might occur. 
Measuring your pond is simple to do and will determine how much chemical to use. Follow these simple guidelines shown below and you will be well on your way to finding the right amount to use for treatment.

                Square/Rectangular Ponds:

                                To find gallons: multiply length x width x average water depth (ft.) x 7.5

                                To find acres: multiply length x width divided by 43,560 square ft. per acre

                Round Ponds:

                                To find gallons: multiply diameter x itself x average water depth (ft.) x 5.0

                                To find acres: multiply diameter x itself divided by 547, 390

                Irregular Shape Ponds:

                                To find gallons: multiply long diameter x short diameter x average water depth (ft.) x 4.9

                                To find acres: multiply diameter x itself divide by 547,390
