Importance of Pond Aeration in Winter

04 Dec 2013
Many pond owners are aware of the necessity to aerate their ponds, but many do not realize that their ponds must be aerated throughout the entirety of the year. Oftentimes, pond owners overlook aerating their ponds during the winter months. In fact, aerating your pond during the winter is actually the most important time to do so.

Aerators circulate oxygen throughout the pond, thus making sure that the pond does not become oxygen deprived, which would lead to the death of many pond organisms and an unhealthy unbalanced pond. Often, pond owners mistakenly believe that ponds cannot be a
erated during the winter due to freezing. This belief is false, and can lead to a buildup of harmful gases during winter months if the pond is left without aeration. A buildup of these gases causes pond life to be killed. Sanco’s durable pond aerators are able to run all year long even in the snow and ice filled winter months. The aerator works by keeping an area of the pond ice free, thus allowing harmful gases to escape and oxygen to be circulated into the pond. Sanco’s aerators are efficient and are built to withstand the outdoors. It is important to install an aerator to keep your pond healthy year round.
