Floating Pond Weeds: Duckweed

17 Mar 2013

Weeds and plants can turn a picturesque pond into an unsightly mess. Duckweed, an invasive and unsightly weed, is an aquatic plant that floats just beneath the surface of a body of water. It can take over a pond in a matter of a few weeks, and it is difficult to eliminate because it rapidly reproduces. Duckweed coats the entire surface of ponds and has a bean-like shape.

In order to prevent duckweed from happening, it is important to add beneficial bacteria to your pond. The bacteria will break down muck, and keep the levels of nitrates and phosphates low, which feed unsightly weeds. Two products that will help prevent duckweed from occurring are Natural Pond Cleaner and Muck Doctor.

If duckweed is already an issue, then Tsunami DQ is the solution. Tsunami DQ is a non-selective herbicide that will eliminate both floating and submerged copper resistant weeds. Tsunami DQ not only eliminates hard to kill weeds like duckweed, but it also eliminates water hyacinth, pondweed, slender leaf pond weed, and other aquatic weeds. Take care of a duckweed infestation quickly, as it will expand throughout the entire pond rapidly.
