Duckweed Infestation

07 Oct 2012

The biggest eye sore for a beautiful pond can be unwanted weeds and plants.  Many pond owners can become victim to such weeds and watch a healthy pond turn unhealthy in a hurry.  One weed that gets lots of attention from pond owners and can quickly over take a pond is duckweed.  But what is duckweed?

Duckweed is an aquatic plant, or weed that floats on or just beneath the surface of bodies of water such as ponds.  The growing location of duckweed makes it hard to destroy and the intense reproductive capacity of the plant can cause a beautiful pond to be overtaken in a matter of weeks.  In other words, duckweed is not something that should be left unnoticed.  Spotting duckweed and taking care of it early in the stages of growth can save pond owners lots of stress.  Duckweed does not appear like other weeds and takes the form of a flat bean floating on the water surface.   Its form is part of the reason why it is so difficult to get rid of and why it reproduces so quickly.

Sanco Industries provides products to help aid in duckweed prevention.  If you suspect that duckweed has already begun to grow in your pond contact Sanco today to find out more information about duckweed and ways to get rid of it.  Do not overlook a small colony of duckweed as it will quickly become larger and larger and can take over an entire pond.
