Do you know the size of your pond?

04 Nov 2013

Treating your pond can be stressful but it doesn’t have to be. One of the most important things that pond owners often forget when treating their pond is factoring in their pond’s size. Pond measurements are often overlooked because owners focus on the specific product and not the size of the pond. Knowing your pond’s size will save you time and money because you will know exactly how much product to use.  Being aware of the length, width, and depth of your pond will take the guessing out of treatment. Measuring your pond is simple with the following steps:

Square/Rectangular Ponds:

To find gallons: multiply length x width x average water depth (ft.) x 7.5

To find acres: multiply length x width divided by 43,560 square ft. per acre

Round Ponds:

To find gallons: multiply diameter x itself x average water depth (ft.) x 5.0

To find acres: multiply diameter x itself divided by 547, 390

Irregular Shape Ponds:

To find gallons: multiply long diameter x short diameter x average water depth (ft.) x 4.9

To find acres: multiply diameter x itself divide by 547,390

Following these simple steps will eliminate the guesstimating and trial and error issues that take up time and money. Make your pond clear and scenic with the correct treatment amounts by finding out just how big and beautiful your pond is.  For more information on measuring your pond and treatmentscontact the experts at Sanco.
