Crystal Plex Storage

03 Apr 2012

As temperatures rise many pond owners will begin to see the first signs of algae on their ponds.  After retrieving left over pond products from their garage; many customers will notice their Crystal Plex algae control sounds like it has rocks in the bottom of the gallon.  Why?  We get many phone calls early in the season about this issue.

The active ingredient in Crystal Plex is copper sulfate.  Copper sulfate in its raw form is granular and Crystal Plex is simply the liquid version of copper.  In the fall when algae slows down, pond owners will store their pond products in a garage, barn, or shed.  However, if the temperature dips below freezing, your product will freeze and the active ingredient in the Crystal Plex will fall out of solution.

The best solution to this problem is to store your products in a temperature controlled area.  If your Crystal Plex has frozen, you can still use the product.

The frozen product can be added to hot water and agitated until the crystals dissolve.  Or you can simply use the frozen product as is.  The only downfall is that the frozen product will not remain active in your water column as long as a fresh bottle of Crystal Plex.
