Benefits of Pond Plants

23 Nov 2011

Even though Sanco has some of the best pond products to control just about any type of pond plant you may have doesn’t mean we think you shouldn’t have any pond plants.  Pond plants in your aquatic environment play a key role in making sure your pond is healthy and balanced.  Sanco’s algaecides and herbicides should be used to help keep pond plants under control.

Pond plants can benefit your body in the following ways:

  • Algae is the base form of food in your pond.  The smallest fish feed on the microscopic algae and the bigger fish feed on the smaller fish.
  • Larger plants and algae mats provide shelter for fish and food for waterfowl.
  • Pond plants (when managed) are a good source of oxygen for your pond animals.
  • Pond plants can also help prevent erosion and establish solid shorelines.

Sanco’s algaecides and herbicides should never be used to eliminate your pond plant population.  Keep your dock and beach areas free and clear of pesky weeds and algae so you can still use your pond recreationally.  Designate other less used areas of your pond for your pond plant habitat.  This will ensure you pond stays in a healthy balance.
