Beneficial Pond Bacteria

Beneficial pond bacteria is the unspoken hero of pond maintenance.  Many pond owners don’t realize the importance of beneficial pond bacteria until it is too late.

Beneficial pond bacteria has two main functions:

            -Safe way to maintain organic sludge build up on pond floor

            -Competitor for weeds and algae

The cycle of a pond can be vicious for a pond owner.  If you are treating your pond for weeds and algae growth it is very important to use beneficial pond bacteria.  All of the work you have done to rid your pond of pesky growth is only fueling the growth for next year unless you use bacteria. 
Beneficial pond bacteria comes in several different ways all of which have different purposes.  Sanco’s Natural Pond Cleaner is a maintenance dose of bacteria that should be used to maintain current pond muck.  For more ponds with a severe muck build up you may want to consider a more concentrated form of beneficial pond bacteria like, Muck Doctor.  Muck Doctor comes in a spike form and is meant to be used around docks, along shorelines, or in beach areas.  This more concentrated beneficial pond bacteria will consume inches of muck and sludge.  1 box of Muck Doctor will treat approximately 250 square feet. The use of pond dye can also improve the overall health and look of your pond.
