Beneficial Pond Bacteria

21 Feb 2012

One thing which can make the difference between a healthy pond and a pea-green slimy pond is beneficial pond bacteria. Beneficial pond bacteria naturally occur in all ponds and lakes, but not always in the numbers needed to curb rampant algae growth. Don’t let algae dominate your pond and make it unusable.

With beneficial bacteria in your pond, nutrients that enter your pond are gobbled up by the bacteria, retarding algal growth resulting in clearer water. Other factors need to be addressed for a comprehensive plan to control algae growth.

·         Identify and eliminate sources of nutrients entering your pond. If you can’t control the run-off entering your pond you may need to consult a local pond engineer for alternatives.

·         Investigate your pond’s bank and increase the grade of slope as needed to remove shallow pond beds

·         Administer the right amount of bacteria by measuring your pond. It saves money, too.

Contact Sanco Industries with your pond problems and we will gladly offer our sage advice.
