Variations in Pond Dyes

24 Jun 2014

Sanco has been manufacturing pond products since 1991.  We have seen the same pond dye take on a variety of shades because of an unlimited number of variables from one body of water to another.

Crystal Blue is a pond dye that contains only blue dye and typically makes pond water a deep royal blue color.  Ocean Blue is a combination of blue and yellow dyes which gives pond water a turquoise or blue/green tint.  Black Out is a combination of many colors.  Black Out makes your pond water look like a deep lake and beautifully mirrors the surrounding landscape.

However, certain conditions in a pond can do strange things to colorants.  For example, if you have a planktonic algae bloom adding a dye will intensify the color of the algae.  If the planktonic algae in your pond is a vibrant green color and you add blue dye the green color will just be intensified even more.  If your pond is extremely muddy adding blue dye will give the pond an intense turquoise color.

Here are some examples of how pond dye’s can vary in different bodies of water.
