Summer Pond Maintenance

17 Jul 2016

Many pond owners that have taken the necessary steps early in the pond season to maintain their body of water will get discouraged in the summer months when they start to notice a little more growth.  We are here to ease your mind and assure you that your efforts have not been for nothing.  We are “glass half full people” so we always say…if it looks like this now, can you imagine what it would look like if you did nothing all season long?  Most of the time customers don’t like that response.

But in all honesty it is the truth.  All ponds take more effort during the warmer months compared to the cooler months.  The water warms up, the days are longer, and rainfall is minimal therefore your pond becomes a petri dish.

So…you ask…why would I spend the time, money, and effort to preventatively treat my pond if the growth is going to come anyways?

The answer is simple.  Spring pond maintenance is the key part to ensuring that your summer growth is manageable.  Keeping pond dye and pond bacteria in the body of water will keep growth hugged up to the edges of the pond.  This makes treating the growth much quicker and easier.  Weed and algae pond treatment may need to be done every 2 weeks in the warmest months.

Growth that is around the edges of the pond will cover your pond if left untreated.  Be sure to identify your pond growth and start treating it promptly.   Take it from us…it is much easier and safer to treat more frequently than it is to wait until the growth is covering ½ of the pond and then try to revive your body of water.  For more information on pond maintenance contact the experts at Sanco.
