Rust Converter vs. Rust Remover

03 Mar 2011

The terms rust remover and rust converter are used interchangeably rather often, however, they are actually do two very different products. A rust converter is a special phosphoric blend that takes the iron oxide (rust) and converts it into a ferric phosphate. Ferric phosphate is a black substance that appears while the rust is converting. A rust converter is simple and cost effective. There is minimal prep work that needs to be done prior to application.   Visit Sanco's FAQ on our rust converter product Rust Kutter.

A rust remover could be one of many formulations that are extremely corrosive and hazardous. Though a rust converter can also be a regulated product, rust removers are more of a concentrated acid. This way of rust removal can be pretty time consuming. You must carefully monitor the acid as it eats through the rust and clean it off before it starts eating your metal surface. Multiple treatments are required. I personally think I would rather use a rust converter that I just have to spray on then let dry, or even take the time to grind everything down then take the risk of a rust remover.
