Pond Growth

19 May 2011

This spring the Midwest has dealt with an abundance of rain.  While excessive rainfall can make it difficult to treat the biggest concern after the rain, is the weather that follows.  Knowing what to expect can help you predict what your pond growth will do and how to treat.

If the weather after an extended period of rain remains fairly stable with moderate temperatures you may have somepond algae and weeds, but the moderate temperatures will keep the growth from thriving.  Use pond dyes and beneficial pond bacteria to ensure the health and beauty of your pond.

If the temperatures increase drastically, your pond growth will most likely explode.

In the case of a drastic increase in temperature you will want to make sure you have good doses of pond dye and beneficial pond bacteria to slow the growth down as much as possible.  However, when you see pond weeds and algae starting to form, you will first identify the type of pond growth you have and then purchase the product that best treats the specific weeds and algae you have.

For algae, Sanco manufactures a liquid copper sulfate product call Crystal Plex.  To control your floating or submerged weeds you will want Tsunami DQ.
