Pond Dye

06 Feb 2011

Sanco Industries firmly believes pond dye is an integral part of your pond maintenance program.  Pond dyes have been around for a long time but there are still many pond owners that choose not to use pond dyes.  Some pond owners say pond dyes are unnatural looking, others claim pond dyes are harmful.

While color is a personal preference, many of these assumptions stem from a time when there was one basic pond dye to choose from.  There are so many different options in terms of pond dye and many of them give a very natural appearance while still being very effective.

  • Crystal Blue-   This pond dye is made only of Acid Blue #9, therefore there is no green tint to the water.
  • Ocean Blue-   A pond dye that is made of Acid Blue #9 and Yellow #23 gives your pond a turquoise ocean look.  This is the dye that many people are probably familiar with being unnatural looking, but again color is based purely on personal preference.  We have many customers that love this dye.
  • Black Out-   Is a pond dye that is gaining popularity.  This pond dye started out primarily in golf courses but has sense been used in more and more residential or personally owned ponds.  This pond dye gives your pond a deep lake effective and mirrors the surrounding landscape.

For your own unique color of pond dye you could do a combination of the pond dyes.

To claim that pond dye is harmful is completely false.  Pond dye is a food grade dye that is 100% safe.  Sanco’s pond dyes are safe for swimming, fish, livestock, and irrigation.  The only thing you should be cautious of is that it will stain your clothes and skin if contact is made with the dye directly out of the bottle.
