Pond Cleaning: Decorative Ponds

08 May 2012

Sanco has been manufacturing premium quality pond products since 1991.  Our primary market is large ponds; therefore our products are tailored for ponds that are measured in acres.  We have a small line of products that are directly geared toward the smaller decorative ponds but not many.

This year we have noticed an increase in phone calls regarding the smaller decorative ponds.  What is the best way to clean out my decorative pond?  Well…the answer to that questions really depends on what type of clean up.  Here are a list of some common problems found in decorative ponds and some solutions.

-Excessive muck build up on pond floor: We suggest either using high doses of beneficial pond bacteria, like Sanoc’s Muck Doctor.  Another alternative is draining and actually manually removing the muck and cleaning the pond liner/rocks.

-Algae growth: typically these ponds are stocked with Koi or goldfish.  If you have fish you will want to look for a product that doesn’t contain copper sulfate.  Koi and goldfish are sensitive to copper sulfate.  If you do not have fish you could use Sanco’s Crystal Plex at the rate of ½ ounce for every 250 gallons of water.

In the end, the best way to clean up your decorative pond is to use preventative maintenance products and to maintain its health and beauty.  The regular use of pond dye and beneficial pond bacteria will greatly reduce amount of clean up from year to year.  Preventative maintenance products will save you time, money and back breaking labor.   Contact the helpful staff at Sanco to learn more about cleaning your decorative pond.
