Pond Bacteria Varieties

21 Sep 2014

All pond bacteria is not created equal. There are many varieties of pond bacteria. We have two different pond bacteria products here at Sanco, Natural Pond Cleaner and Muck Doctor. It is important to know the difference so that your expectations are in line with what each product is capable of doing.

Natural Pond Cleaner is a liquid maintenance dose of pond bacteria. This bacteria is meant to be used as maintenance. You aren’t going to notice a huge reduction in your muck levels after using 1 or even 2 gallons. Natural Pond Cleaner simply helps maintain current muck levels and over extended periods of using this product will start to reduce muck levels. The definition of an extended period depends on the condition of the pond. For example, if the pond is 25 years old and has accumulated 25 years of dead leaves, weeds, and fish debris than it is going to take consistent monthly doses of Natural Pond Cleaner for several years to decrease muck levels. Although, many pond owners that have used Natural Pond Cleaner have reported better water clarity and quality after only a couple uses.

Muck Doctor is a highly aggressive dose of pond bacteria. This pond bacteria comes in the form of a spike that is similar in size to a piece of side walk chalk. A box of Muck Doctor contains 10 spikes that will treat approximately 250 sq. ft. The amount of bacteria is much higher and the dosing is much more concentrated for faster results. In a 250 sq. ft. area you can reduce muck 3-6 inches in just 45 days.

The Muck Doctor retails for more than the Natural Pond Cleaner so it really depends on what your expectations are as to which product is best for your pond. Contact Sanco for more information on pond muck removal.
