Pond Bacteria: Nutrient Reducers

23 Nov 2010
Reducing nutrients in your pond by adding pond bacteria will result in a healthier pond, a reduction in algae blooms, and a general reduction in your muck levels.
In recent years it has been discovered that populations of bacteria within the pond environment have been negatively affected by the application of chemicals used to control algae.  This leads to muck buildup and higher amounts of algal blooms due to an overabundance of nutrients in the pond water. One way to help develop a healthy pond is to add back to your pond the very bacteria that were being disturbed by chemicals used to kill algae.
Adding healthy bacteria spores to a pond leads to a return to the digestion of nutrients and even muck in the pond.  The spores spread throughout the bottom of the pond and form colonies that consume nutrients.  The colonies continue to grow as long as they have a food source; namely, nutrients and muck.  To increase your pond bacteria, Sanco Industries, Inc. has a product called Natural Pond Cleaner.  Natural Pond Cleaner adds helpful spores to the pond and begins to create healthy colonies that consume nutrients in the water.  It is completely safe for all animals and humans, and does not affect drinking, irrigating or swimming in the pond.
The bottom line is that if you have a source of nutrients (fertilizers, manure, leaves, etc.) that continually invade your pond, then adding pond bacteria will aid in reducing these nutrients in your pond.
