Mechanical Dredging

18 Nov 2010
If you have ever had anyone suggest that you need to mechanically dredge your pond you have probably also felt your stomach drop just a bit.
Mechanical dredging is a necessary evil in the life of most ponds.  However, mechanical dredging can cost thousands of dollars, tear up your landscaping, and leave the banks of your ponds unusable for several weeks while the organic material dries on the edge of your pond.  The dried material then has to be hauled away as a hazardous material.  There have been great advancements in the science of using microscopic bacteria to replace backhoes and excavators.
Mechanical dredging will soon be a service of the past.  Biological excavating is the new alternative to mechanical dredging.  Our biological excavate, named Excavate, will dredge your pond for 60-70% less than the cost of mechanical dredging.  Not to mention you have no mess, no hazardous waste removal, your landscape remains intact and very little smell.  Much of the cost depends on the size of area being treated and the depth of muck to be removed.  For example one 25lb pale treats ¼ acre; however, if you have excessive depths of muck it may take several applications.
Excavate is a combination of highly concentrated aerobic and facultative strains of bacteria that will consume the muck and sludge (organic material) from your pond floor.  Your pond will be gridded and the muck measured.  The Excavate is inserted into the muck and begins consuming the organic material.  You will have measurable results by 30 days and continued results for up to 90 days.  Results can vary but we guarantee a minimum of 6” of muck to be removed.  As the Excavate breaks down the organic material you may see some bubbles the first couple of weeks and there may be a slight odor.  We also highly recommend aeration to obtain maximum results.  Excavate is 100% safe and there are no restrictions following a treatment.
Once your muck is reduced you should notice a significant improvement in the overall health of your pond.  Water conditions will be improved and weed/algae blooms should be less frequent.
