Late Season Pond Algae Control

18 Oct 2015

As the weather is getting cooler and pond season is coming to an end it is important to make sure your pond is prepped for the winter months. This means every last dose of whatever maintenance product should start to be given to the pond to ensure it is healthy throughout the winter. Introduce a good dose of pond dye and pond bacteria before it freezes over. Weeds and algae can be treated until the water temperatures dip below 45°F.  Once below that temperature the growth goes into a dormant state. The growth is not absorbing nutrients and will not absorb the products.

Sanco Industries offers a couple different options for dealing with both weeds and algae in a pond. Products such as Crystal Plex are a great option for getting rid of algae. Crystal Plex is a liquid copper sulfate solution designed to kill and control algae such as filamentous, chara, and planktonic. For underwater pond weeds we recommend Tsunami DQ.

If temperatures have already dropped below 45°F; Sanco Industries also offers some manual pond weed & algae removal options.  The Weed Rake and Weed Razer offered by Sanco Industries are tossed into a pond from the shore and drag along the pond floor cutting down anything that is in the way and then cleaning up the debris afterwards.
