Killing Willow Trees

27 Jul 2014

It seems in every serene outdoor landscape of a pond there is a Willow Tree depicted.  There is a certain beauty about Willow Trees; however Willow Trees can be very invasive and leave a pond damaged and messy.  It is important to keep your willow trees in check.

Sanco recommends using Catt Plex to kill your Willow Trees.  The following dosing will kill Willow Trees about the size of a man.  If the trees are much larger than 6 feet you may need to incorporate manual removal.  Use Catt Plex and Plex Mate at the rate of 3 oz. of Catt Plex and 1 tsp of Plex Mate mixed in every gallon of water to kill actively growing Willow Trees.  Spray the leaves and trunk liberally but not to the point that the mixture is dripping off of the tree.   Because Catt Plex kills plants to the root you will need to give the product 7 days to notice yellowing of leaves and up to 14 days for a kill.

Once the Willow tree is dead you can cut down or depending on the root structure and location you can pull it out.  This product does not control plants that are completely submerged or have a majority of the foliage under water.  Repeat treatments may be necessary to control plants regenerating from underground parts or seed.
