Copper Sulfate Algae Control

05 Apr 2011

Pond ownership can be very rewarding especially when you can enjoy a beautiful, pristine backyard pond.  However, an algae bloom is inevitable so you are going to need a product to help control your mid-summer algae blooms.  Sanco Industries offers two different forms of copper sulfate algae control: liquid copper sulfate and granular copper sulfate.  The difference between liquid copper sulfate and copper sulfate granular is minimal.

Liquid copper sulfate (Crystal Plex) contains microscopic copper sulfate particles, which allows the copper to stay active in the water for up to 30 days.  If you prefer to spray your algaecide then using the liquid algaecide is easier because the copper granules are already dissolved.

The granular copper sulfate is just as sufficient in controlling algae mats and if you prefer to cast the granules the granular algaecide would be your preference.

There are certain algae’s that the liquid algaecide can control better than the granular, for example, planktonic algae and chara cannot be controlled with a granular algaecide.
