Controlling Pond Weeds

16 May 2011

Controlling pond weeds can be difficult when pulling them out by hand, throwing in a weed cutter, or raking them out. Sanco has an herbicide called Tsunami DQ that is as easy as pouring a few ounces in a hand sprayer, mixing some water with it and spraying it on your weed infested areas.

Treating your pond weeds is not extremely different than treating your algae. I don’t recommend treating all your weeds at once so there isn’t a chance for an oxygen level change. By, spot treating your weed infested areas you can control the amount of weeds being killed per treatment.

A good example I have of pond weed control took place at a friend’s pond I visited. ¼ acre of his pond was absolutely filled with curly leaf pond weed. You couldn’t even see down into the water it was so infested. But after only 15 minutes of spraying the Tsunami DQ mix and a week of being away, I came back and saw no trace of ever having weeds in that area.

Some weeds like duckweed are more difficult to control and may need more than one application to have effective pond weed control, but in the end the Tsunami DQ can transform your weed infested pond into a beautiful clean pond.

Use Sanco’s resources to properly identify your pond growth, or contact Sanco for more information.
